2026 marks the UK’s National Year of Reading

“You cannot measure imagination, but you can see its effects in a child’s smile and a story well told.”

Turning Classrooms into Publishing Houses,
Turning Children into Storytellers.

What We Do

Book Crafters is a structured, 6-week program that guides students through the journey of becoming digital authors. We take them from the first spark of an idea to a fully published multimedia project.

Students don’t just write stories; they bring them to life. They illustrate scenes, record professional-quality narrations, design soundscapes, and format their work into interactive apps and e-books. Whether working as a whole class or in small groups, every child discovers their unique role in the creative process.

The Process: How It Works

01.

Write

Students craft original narratives of their own or reimagine classic public domain tales.

02.

Create

Using digital tools like Canva and Audacity, they design illustrations, record dialogue, & mix sound effects.

03.

Publish

We professionally format the final project into shareable e-books, audiobooks, and interactive apps.

04.

Celebrate

Host a community “Book Premiere” where families scan QR codes to access the students’ published work.

Benefits & How It Helps Children.

Focused on child development and outcomes.

The Holistic Approach

         More Than Just a Book

This project is designed to develop the whole child.

  • Literacy: We enhance writing structure, vocabulary, and editing skills through real-world application.

  • Oracy: Recording narrations builds confidence in speaking, pacing, and emotional expression.

  • Digital Fluency: Students gain hands-on experience with audio editing, graphic design, and file management.

  • Wellbeing: Storytelling allows children to express anxieties and explore complex emotions in a safe, creative space.

Inclusion & SEND

A Place for Every Talent

We believe every child has a story to tell. Book Crafters is built on the principles of scaffolding and differentiation. For children with dyslexia, our multi-sensory approach (using sound and art) bypasses barriers to writing. For confident speakers, the audiobook narration is their stage. For artists, the illustration is their voice. We ensure every ability contributes meaningfully to the final product.

Mental Health

Creative Expression for Resilience
In partnership with principles championed by Place2Be and YoungMinds, Book Crafters uses storytelling as a vehicle for mental health. By creating characters and narratives, children can process their feelings and build resilience. Our curated themes (like exploring self-image or empathy) provide a natural framework for PSHE discussions.

"Every child has a story. We help them tell it."

"From imagination to publication."

"Imagine a classroom where every child finishes the term not with a test score, but with a published book they wrote, illustrated, and voiced. That's not a dream. That's Book Crafters."

For Parents:

Watch Your Child’s Confidence Soar.
Imagine your child’s pride when they see their own story published in a professional digital book. Book Crafters goes beyond handwriting practice; it builds confidence in speaking, resilience in problem-solving, and the technical skills they’ll need for the future. It’s a project where every child – whether a writer, artist, or narrator – can shine.

Example of a Finished Project

The Flipbook below was created by an after school club of Year 6 pupils, picked from a variety of categories such as writing, illustrating & recording the voices of their own adventure story to choose your own path (CYOP) stories that help explore consequences of different choices in a risk-free environment.

The young creators voted on an alphabet book that will be used in their schools reception class to help teach the alphabet in a unique & original multimedia style.

This finished FlipBook was returned in multiple formats that can be shared with parents, friends & family, can be uploaded to the schools website to view, or even sold on digital marketplaces.

Project Steps

In a world of screens, we're teaching children to be makers, not just consumers. To build, to design, to narrate. To craft.

"I was nervous about the technology at first, but the CPD session was clear and practical. Within one lesson, my Year 4 class was recording narration like they'd been doing it for years. The best part? A boy who never writes confidently became our lead sound editor. He came alive. The whole class was buzzing."

"My son has dyslexia and has always hated writing. When he came home and told me he was the 'sound director' for his group's audiobook, I was curious. When I heard his voice introducing the story at the Book Premiere, I cried. He was so proud. We still listen to it together."

"I've taught creative writing units before, but nothing compares to Book Crafters. The children took ownership in a way I've never seen. They were editing each other's work, problem-solving technical issues, and supporting each other. The final products were genuinely impressive. This is teaching at its most rewarding."
